#11.Awkward Moments

We all have awkward moments in life. Those moments that we wish never happened b/c of all the embarrassment and the blushing etc. I don’t know about you, but I love watching awkward moments happen when other people are involved. I’d never enjoy myself (and to date I haven’t) if I were the main character in these impromptu acts that leave you wishing the earth could open up and swallow you whole.

Sadly, I’ve had my share of awkward moments. Moments that I wish I could forget but which torture and torment me every day.

1). My ‘first date’ awkward moment. This happened out of the blues and I wasn’t even prepared. Guys are money conscious (well, those who don’t have enough to waste obviously 🙂 ) and girls are naturally very conscious about their food intake. Here is a situation where I’m meeting a girl to buy her food and …awkward or not? I’ve never felt so nervous before.  Suffice it to say that since then I’ve always gone out with twice the amount of money I expect to spend that day.  You never know when you’ll be hijacked on the street with an impromptu lunch. This happened years ago so at least the memory has lost its strong effect on me…

2). Wearing a suit in public for the first time. I felt as if all eyes were on me. Not your favorite kind of feeling if you don’t love the spotlight. But since then I’ve grown more and more accustomed to spotting a suit every now and then. It was still awkward meeting my friends…all the snickers and the stifled laughs really do a number on your confidence levels.

3). Waiting for girls to text you back. I used to hate this so much! Especially if you’re waiting for someone you ‘want to know better’. You don’t want to let go of your phone and the waiting just sucks. The first week was the worst. Had to wait for hours (definitely wasn’t into me!). Over time I was able to read btwn the lines. The first week was the most awkward. “Do you wait or do you send another one?” and all that crap.  Nowadays I don’t have the naive eagerness I once had. I don’t even carry my phone with me so often anymore. Tables have turned and now ‘they’ have to wait. Wouldn’t have it any other way!

4). What is she thinking? Most awkward moment of all. “What does she think of me? Is she laughing at me? Interested? Bored? Smitten? Spiteful? Shy?” Try juggling all these thoughts at once and you’ll see how awkward everything will become in a few seconds. Tip: just relax and count sheep. Works like a charm!! 🙂

Of course there are moments  that have been censored and will hopefully never be laid bare for all and sundry. The one thing I’ve found out is that people rarely notice when these moments occur. they’re too busy thinking about themselves. So all that embarrassment you feel? It’s all in your mind. Your mind is your best friend and your most dangerous enemy.

    1. It’s a good thing I rarely read my blog posts after they’re published, coz every time I see this post in future I’ll cringe inside…I’ll remember all my awkward moments, and that’s definitely not a good thing!!
